More Than a Game:Bringing Hope Through Soccer
As millions gather to watch the World Cup, we’re reminded that soccer has a unique power to bring people together. It transcends language, borders, and even hardship. For the Iraqi Christian refugee men and youth we serve in Jordan, the beautiful game has become something even greater—it has become a lifeline.
Many of these young men and fathers were forced to flee Iraq simply because of their faith. They left behind their homes, their schools, their livelihoods, and the communities they loved. In Jordan, they live as refugees, carrying the weight of uncertainty while trying to build a new future for their families.For them, an evening on the soccer field is about far more than winning a match.
Each month, through American FRRME’s Twilight Soccer Program, Iraqi refugee youth and men come together to laugh, compete, encourage one another, and strengthen the bonds of a community that has endured unimaginable loss. Friendships are renewed. Fathers and sons play side by side. New arrivals find belonging. Hope is restored.
Because these refugee communities do not have access to suitable fields where they live as refugees, we transport them by bus to safe facilities where they can gather. Your support helps cover field rentals, transportation, jerseys, equipment, refreshments, and everything needed to make these evenings possible.
