A Critical Moment for Hope:
Supporting Education for Iraqi Christian Youth
Education Is the Key to Hope — and the Future of Christian Communities in the Middle East
Across Iraq’s historic Nineveh Plains, where many of the country’s Christian families have lived for centuries, schools are struggling to survive. Years of conflict, persecution, and displacement have left classrooms overcrowded, unsafe, and without even the most basic necessities—clean water, desks, or reliable heat.
With only a small fraction of Iraq’s education budget reaching local schools, millions of children—especially displaced and persecuted Christian students—are losing access to safe, quality education. For many families, the heartbreak deepens as they face an impossible choice: stay and see their children fall behind or leave their ancestral homes in search of opportunity elsewhere.
The crisis extends beyond Iraq. In Jordan, nearly 18,000 school-aged Iraqi refugee children are struggling to continue their education. Financial hardship, limited resources, and social barriers make it nearly impossible for many to continue past 8th grade—a crucial turning point that determines whether a child can build a future filled with hope or face a life of uncertainty.
Education doesn’t just change a child’s future—it helps preserve an entire community’s identity, dignity, and hope. Together, we can make sure they don’t lose it.
Danial, a bright 5th-grade Iraqi refugee in Jordan and recipient of the General David Greer Scholarship, dreams of a life where he can learn freely and live without fear.
“I dream of a place where I can practice my faith, go to a good school, and feel safe.”
Your support helps make dreams like Danial’s possible—giving Iraqi refugee youth the chance to learn, heal, and build hopeful futures.
